PoisonTap is a USB-based hacking device acquired for an attempted North Korean espionage operation against South Korea's military command network. A civilian recruited by a North Korean operator purchased components for the device, while an active-duty South Korean officer provided military network login material and brought a covert camera into a base. The components could be connected to a laptop and programmed remotely by the operator. Authorities disrupted the operation before PoisonTap was used to compromise the Korean Joint Command and Control System.
